shutdown in manipur over militant's arrest
Imphal, June 7 -- Kuki civil society organisations and student bodies on Friday launched a total shutdown in Tengnoupal district of Manipur to protest against the arrest of Kamginthang Gangte, a militant affiliated with a Suspension of Operation (SoO) group.
Gangte was apprehended by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Moreh on Thursday for his alleged involvement in the ethnic conflict in Manipur, officials said.
In a joint statement, Kuki organisations, including the Kuki Chiefs' Association and Hill Tribal Council, condemned the arrest, alleging it was conducted "without following due legal procedure".
