Kolkata, March 3 -- The Students' Federation of India (SFI) on Sunday called for a strike in West Bengal universities from March 3, demanding the resignation of state education minister Bratya Basu in connection with the violent clashes at Jadavpur University on Saturday, which led to the arrest of one person.

"We will start agitations at all universities from Monday demanding Basu's resignation," SFI Bengal unit secretary Debanjan Dey said. The move comes a day after Saturday's protest at the varsity when SFI members allegedly gheraoed Basu and damaged his car's windscreen as they pressed for their demands to hold student union elections.
