India, July 15 -- Several passengers on board a Tempo Traveller are feared dead and injured after the vehicle plunged into a deep gorge in Doda district on Tuesday morning, said officials.

A Tempo Traveller veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Ponda on Doda-Barath road on Tuesday, said a police officer.

"We fear casualties are feared, though the exact number of deaths and injuries is yet to be confirmed," he added.

According to officials, 23 passengers were travelling in the vehicle at the time of accident.

Unconfirmed reports stated that five people died on the spot.
