Several coastal zones dotted with rare earth deposits: Govt
New Delhi, July 23 -- Several beaches and coastal areas in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Maharashtra have reserves of rare earth elements which can be mined, the Union ministry of mines informed Rajya Sabha on Monday.
Approximately 7.23 million tonnes (Mt) of in-situ Rare Earth Elements Oxide (REO) contained in 13.15 Mt of monazite occurring in coastal beach, teri/ red sand and inland alluvium in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, as per Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), the ministry has said.
