New Delhi, April 10 -- The Union government has given in-principle approval for the proposed greenfield airport at Perandur, making it the second airport to come up in Tamil Nadu's capital city Chennai, civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu announced on Wednesday.
The airport in Perandur will be developed under the public-private partnership model, and construction of its first phase is expected to begin by January 2026, officials said.
"It gives me immense pleasure to share the Ministry of Civil Aviation has granted in-principle approval for the new Perandur Airport," Naidu said on X.
