New Delhi, Nov. 23 -- At least four jackals escaped their enclosure at the National Zoological Park in Delhi on Saturday morning, prompting an urgent search operation across the forested area behind the animal enclosures, officials aware of the matter said. The incident took place between 10am and 11am. While zoo authorities did not issue an official statement or respond to queries from HT, multiple officials confirmed the jackals breached the enclosure from the back, away from the public pathway and entered the dense forest patch that forms the boundary of the zoo. There was also confusion within the establishment over how many animals had actually escaped, with one official saying that around 10 jackals may have escaped. P5
