SC seeks centre's response on insurance cover for Epilepsy
New Delhi, May 28 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday sought response of the Centre and Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) on a petition filed by a non-profit organisation challenging exclusion of persons with epilepsy from insurance coverage. Issuing notice on a petition filed by Sanvedana Foundation, a bench of justices BV Nagarathna and SC Sharma posted the matter in July after being told that this is first of its kind petition related to persons with epilepsy raising the issue of lack of access to healthcare and insurance cover that violates their fundamental right to access to health protected by Article 21 and discrimination vis-a-vis other ailments under right to equality of the Constitution.
