New Delhi, April 21 -- A Supreme Court lawyer has written to Attorney General R Venkatramani seeking consent to initiate contempt of court action against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for accusing the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna of leading the country towards anarchy.
Following Dubey's comments made to a news agency on Saturday, advocate Anas Tanwir wrote a letter to the AG seeking his consent for filing a contempt petition against Dubey alleging that his comments are "outrageous and defamatory".
"Such allegation devoid of any basis constitutes a grave attack on the integrity and independence of judiciary and is an act deserving of urgent and exemplary legal scrutiny under the 1971 Act," Tanwir said.
