nEW dELHI, Sept. 27 -- The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking a ban on Salman Rushdie's novel "The Satanic Verses."
A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta observed that the petition was essentially challenging the Delhi high court's order from November 2024, which had lifted the long-standing ban on the book after government authorities failed to produce the original notification from 1988 that had prohibited its import. "At present, there is no live notification," the court observed.
The PIL was filed by Mohd Arshad Mohd Jamal Khan and two others.HTC
