New Delhi, May 16 -- In the first meeting on judicial appointments convened by Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai, the three-member Supreme Court collegium on Thursday recommended the Centre to appoint justice Kempaiah Somashekhar as the chief justice of Manipur high court. The collegium headed by CJI and comprising justices Surya Kant and Abhay S Oka, had to meet urgently as the present CJ of Manipur high court justice D Krishnakumar is due to retire on May 21. Justice Somashekhar is currently a judge of the Karnataka high court and is the third senior most judge in the high court after chief justice NV Anjaria.
