New Delhi, Feb. 19 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that fundamental rights of an accused seeking transfer from jail cannot come at the cost of rights of other citizens as it dismissed a plea by conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar seeking a transfer to a jail outside Delhi.
A bench led by Justice Bela M Trivedi noted that Chandrashekhar, accused in 28 criminal cases of cheating and extortion, had repeatedly misused the legal system, having sought a jail transfer four times. He is currently lodged in Mandoli jail.
On one occasion he was transferred from Tihar Prisons to Mandoli and since then he complained twice of being harassed by jail officials allegedly at the behest of ministers in the then AAP government in Delhi.
