India, May 8 -- Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected as the new pope on Thursday, becoming the first American pontiff to take the top job at the Vatican. He will be taking the name Leo XIV. Soon after the 69-year-old's name was announced, his social media posts criticizing US VP JD Vance surfaced.

Back in February, Prevost had posted an article titled 'JD Vance is wrong: Jesus doesn't ask us to rank our love for others' on X, platform formerly known as Twitter. The story by National Catholic Reporter slammed Vance for talking about the 'Christian concept' of love.
