New Delhi, Feb. 21 -- Consumer complaints and their redressal in the country's far-flung northeastern states, which often suffer geographical disadvantages, have shot up on the back of digital technologies, such as AI-driven multilingual support, data from the consumer affairs ministry reviewed by HT show.
A campaign under the Consumer Protection Act 2019 has also prompted companies to set up more local bases in these states and respond to grievances of buyers, amid an e-commerce-led consumption boom.
Between 2020 and 2024, complaints of faulty products that led to opening up of legal processes, including compensation, have jumped 300%, from 9162 in 2020 to 36,609 grievances in 2024 in the northeast.
