Religious book found burnt, Belagavi tense
Belagavi, May 13 -- Tension was palpable in parts of Belagavi taluk in Karnataka after a religious book was found partially burnt in a field at Santibasthawad village, police said on Monday, adding that a probe has been launched in the matter.
Following the incident, which took place on Sunday night, members of the community staged a protest demanding the immediate arrest of the culprits.
Belagavi police commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang said a probe was launched after the incident, which came to light after people who visited a Santibasthawad mosque for morning prayers "found a partially burnt Quran in the nearby agricultural field".
"Hundreds of people held protests in various parts of the taluk," the officer said.
