India, April 28 -- Indian spin bowling legend Ravichandran Ashwin was conferred the honour of receiving the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award. Ashwin received the award from President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on April 28, for his contributions to the nation through sports.
Ashwin was announced as one of the recipients of the prestigious award on the eve of Republic Day, and was present at the ceremony to accept the Padma Shri from President Murmu on Monday. Also in attendance were Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, amongst several other dignitaries.
