India, June 7 -- A 24-year-old man accused of abducting and raping a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in Lucknow was gunned down during an encounter with police on Friday, officers aware of the matter said. The incident comes almost a day after the girl was abducted by the accused, identified as Deepak Verma alias Nanhu, near the Alambagh Metro station. DCP (central) Ashish Srivastava said when the police was arresting Verma he fired at police officers. "He died in retaliatory firing by police," Srivastava said.P10
