New Delhi, March 10 -- Fasting during the month of Ramadan originated in the seventh century to commemorate the month that Prophet Mohammad received divine revelation and its purpose is to attain spiritual growth, better self-control and learn kindness. Social life during Ramadan is particularly more active as people host dinners by serving exotic meals but during Ramadan, some people may not undertake physical activity and eat unhealthy meals leading to weight gain and altered lipid profile.
Iftar is the meal that is enjoyed after sunset, marking the end of the daily fast. Traditionally, it begins with the eating of dates and drinking water followed by a larger meal.
