India, Jan. 6 -- Panic gripped Chakan on Sunday after a rabid dog went on a biting spree, nipping more than 25 people including children, women and the elderly.
According to officials, the diseased dog first entered the residential area near Ambethan Road and attacked the persons it encountered. It then moved through crowded locations such as Mahatma Phule Chowk, Shivaji Vidyamandir and Market Yard, biting at least 25 persons it came across and leaving them bleeding and in a state of shock. The rabid dog bit stray canines it ran into that are now suspected to have also become rabies-infected. Meanwhile, local residents killed the rabid dog that had mauled so many in its wake.
