India, Jan. 31 -- Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the 32nd president of the United States and the only person to be elected to office for four terms. He was at the helm of the federal government during two of the greatest crises of the twentieth century, the Great Depression and World War II. As such, the significance of his presidency can hardly be understated.

Popularly known by his initials, FDR, Roosevelt died in April 1945, at the age of 63. In Franklin D Roosevelt's Last Message to the American People, archived in the Library of Congress, he famously stated, "The only limit to our realisation of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith."
