India, Sept. 15 -- LUCKNOW Private owners of auctioned government vehicles in Uttar Pradesh can no longer use the 'G' series registration numbers, and are required to replace their existing nymbers ('G/.G' series), reserved for government vehicles only, with a private registration number within 60 days, as per a directive by the transport department.
In case of non-compliance, their registration certificates (RC) may be suspended and other penal action initiated under the Motor Vehicles Act. The fresh moves comes after it was found that in Rampur over 9,000 private vehicles were allotted registration number series reserved for government vehicles.
