Patiala, Oct. 19 -- Punjab on Saturday clocked 33 new cases of farm fires, marking the highest single-day spike in farm fire incidents that took the total to 241 this season, according to data from the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre. Tarn Taran district alone accounted for 23 of the 33, making it the worst-affected district as it accounts for 88 incidents this season. Amritsar is second worst district, accounting for 80 cases. Conventionally, the board begins to monitor stubble burning from September 15, coinciding with the start of early paddy harvesting that lasts until November 30.
