New Delhi, Nov. 22 -- Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai said on Friday that the Supreme Court had adopted a "swadeshi interpretation" in its November 20 judgment on the issue of Presidential Reference, relying solely on Indian precedents rather than foreign judgments.
The CJI, who was speaking at his farewell event, made the remark in response to Solicitor General Tushar Mehta's observation that a "fresh breeze of Indianness" had entered judgments under Justice Gavai and Justice Surya Kant, who will now take over as CJI. P8
