New Delhi, May 16 -- The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of Delhi Police has cracked two 'digital arrest' scam cases, recovering Rs.4.5 crore from fraudsters targeting elderly citizens.
A 92-year-old surgeon lost Rs.2.2 crore after being shown fake FIRs and forced into a virtual court hearing by impersonators of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and Maharashtra Police.
"He was coerced into transferring funds for 'verification'," said DCP (IFSO) Hemant Tiwari. In another case, a 79-year-old woman was duped of Rs.2.36 crore by fake CBI officials. Cases are registered under Sections 318(4), 319(2), 204, and 61(2) of the BNS.
