India, Sept. 13 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Sushila Karki on assuming office as the Prime Minister of Nepal's interim government.

"I extend my best wishes to Right Hon. Mrs. Sushila Karki on assuming office as the Prime Minister of the Interim Government of Nepal. India remains firmly committed to the peace, progress and prosperity of the people of Nepal," PM Narendra Modi said in a post on X.

Sushila Karki, a former Chief Justice of Nepal, was sworn in as the head of the interim government after days of political turmoil in the Himalayan nation.

President Ramchandra Paudel administered the oath of office to Karki, 73, at the President's Office.
