Pilot project to fit trucks in city with 'emission cutter'
New Delhi, Aug. 14 -- The Delhi government is preparing to launch a first-of-its-kind pilot to test retrofitting devices on heavy commercial vehicles that could slash harmful emissions by more than 70%, environment minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said on Wednesday.
The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) will fit the devices on 30 Bharat Stage-III and Stage-IV vehicles, mainly from government and public sector fleets. If found viable, the technology could be integrated into long-term air quality plans.
"Delhi is taking a decisive leap towards tech-driven pollution control. This is not only a first in India, but also a model that can be replicated in other cities where fossil fuel engines are a major source of pollution," Sirsa said, add...
