India, May 18 -- A powerful explosion that rocked downtown Palm Springs in California on Saturday appears to have originated from a car blast near the American Reproductive Centers clinic. The incident occurred at the intersection of North Indian Canyon Drive and East Tachevah Drive.

Palm Springs Police Lt. William Hutchinson confirmed that a bomb had detonated in or near a vehicle parked by the building. At least one fatality has been reported.

"We've got a vehicle that appears to have exploded. It appears that we have a deceased person. Everything's in question whether this is an act of terrorism, or what it is," he said.

Residents have been advised to stay away from the area.
