Jammu, May 3 -- Pakistani forces on Friday violated ceasefire along the border for eighth consecutive day, opening small arms fire along the Line of Control (LoC) in five Jammu and Kashmir districts, officials said, adding that the Indian side retaliated "promptly and effectively".

"During the interning night of Thursday and Friday, Pakistan Army resorted to unprovoked small arms firing from posts opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Nowshera and Akhnoor areas," said Jammu-based defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal.
