Padma awardee booked for rape
Kolkata, June 27 -- Padma Shri awardee and Bharat Sevashram Sangha seer Swami Pradiptananda, also known as Kartik Maharaj, has been booked for raping a woman on pretext of giving her a job, police said late on Thursday.
According to the complaint lodged by the victim at the Lalbagh police station, the incident took place in 2013 in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.
Additional superintendent of police Raspreet Singh said: "A woman lodged the complaint at the Lalbagh police station saying he raped her. She alleged that he promised her a job. The monk lives in the Beldanga area. An investigation has been launched on the basis of the written complaint."
