New Delhi, Feb. 13 -- The transport department has revised guidelines on seizing end-of-life vehicles, making it mandatory for officials to let owners to retrieve valuables or documents before scrapping. The decision follows multiple owners' complaints about the same.

As per the new order, all Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSF) must give owners or their representatives a chance to inspect seized vehicles. If the vehicle is scrapped, RVSF must provide a copy of "certificate of deposit" and "certificate of vehicle scrapping" to owner. Also, owners can reclaim seized vehicles in three months.
