New Delhi, March 26 -- The Delhi government has plans to relocate Tihar jail to a new jail complex in Delhi's outskirts for which Rs.10 crore have been allocated in the annual budget for FY 2025-26 to conduct survey and consultancy work, CM Rekha Gupta told the legislative assembly on Tuesday.
The decision aims to decongest India's largest jail complex overcrowded with over 12,000 inmates. The government has stated that it will focus on rehabilitating inmates and work towards skill imparting programmes. The products manufactured in Tihar, Rohini and Mandoli jail complexes will get preference in offices, ministries and departments under Delhi government, it added. HTC
