India, Aug. 14 -- Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on Thursday told the Supreme Court that over 37 lakh dog bites were reported across the country in a year, highlighting the growing public health concern posed by stray dogs, particularly in Delhi-NCR.

A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court has commenced hearings on the matter related to the management and control of stray dogs in the Delhi-National Capital Region.

Mehta emphasised that the issue requires urgent resolution to prevent fatalities, especially among children.
