NEW DELHI, Jan. 1 -- In the run-up to the New Year, police in Dwarka launched a crackdown on organised and street-level crime, rounding up more than 2,600 suspects and arresting 93 people for multiple offences in a drive on Wednesday. Deputy commissioner of police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said that the operation, titled "Operation Clean Sweep 3.0", was aimed at "preventive policing and boosting visible police presence to deter criminal activity across the district". The police rounded up 2,627 repeat offenders, ex-convicts and violators under the Delhi Police Act, while they apprehended 457 persons as part of preventive action.
