New Delhi, May 16 -- Less than 50% of identified Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs) in Delhi are composting wet waste, even as landfills overflow, MCD data shows. Of 3,073 BWGs, only 1,372 have begun on-site composting, despite repeated MCD warnings and Supreme Court directives. BWGs-commercial units, hotels, hospitals, and housing societies generating over 100kg of waste daily-are mandated to process wet waste in-situ, according to MCD data. Only 2,416 BWGs are registered on MCD's 311 app, officials said. "Efforts are being made to ensure the remaining BWGs pursue on-site waste processing," says an MCD report dated May 9.
