Odisha MLAs pass bill to increase salary threefold
Bhubaneswar, Dec. 10 -- The Odisha Assembly on Tuesday passed a Bill to revise salaries and allowances for legislators, ministers and the Speaker, along with a hike in pensions for former MLAs and a threefold increase in their monthly salary and allowances.
The monthly salary and allowances of the MLAs was increased to around Rs.3.45 lakh, compared to around Rs.1 lakh at present.
The revised remuneration bill, moved by Parliamentary Affairs minister Mukesh Mahaling, was passed as the Winter Session drew to an early close. Under the new structure, both sitting and former MLAs will receive Rs.90,000 as salary and pension respectively - a sharp increase from the earlier basic salary of Rs.35,000 and allowances totalling Rs.65,000.
