India, July 11 -- Eminent Urdu scholar and author CM Naim passed away in Chicago on July 9, his friends and family said. Naim was Professor Emeritus of South Asian Languages and Civilisations at the University of Chicago. Known for his pluralistic vision, Naim remained closely attached to his hometown Barabanki despite spending decades in the United States, scholars associated with him said on Thursday. He was 89.
