Nobel peace prize for Venezuela Oppn leader
India, Dec. 31 -- Opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, 58, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her efforts to bring democracy to Venezuela and for challenging president Nicolas Maduro's autocratic rule since 2013. Machado has accused Maduro of stealing the 2024 election, which she was banned from. She secretly left the country for Oslo in defiance of a decade-long travel ban and after spending more than a year in hiding. She arrived in Oslo early on December 11, failing to reach the Norwegian capital in time for the prize ceremony held on December 10.
