New Delhi, March 6 -- Parliamentarians have no special right to attend House proceedings while in detention, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) told a Delhi court on Wednesday, opposing custody parole for incarcerated Jammu and Kashmir MP Engineer Rashid. The agency argued that Rashid's plea to participate in parliamentary sessions solely to raise issues of his constituency was not a valid ground for parole.
"The law is settled that parliamentarians have no statutory right to attend sessions while they are in detention, as other prisoners are not provided the same right," the NIA's prosecutor told special judge Chanderjit Singh at the Patiala House court.
