Silchar, Aug. 22 -- The Assam government will stop issuing first-time Aadhaar cards to people aged above 18 in the state as a precautionary measure to check illegal immigrants from getting Indian citizenship, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday. He noted the state has already reached "saturation point" in Aadhaar enrolment, with coverage "crossing 102%." The new order will take effect from October 1, with exceptions for SC, ST and Tea Tribes. P10
