Jalandhar, Aug. 12 -- The principal bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has ordered the municipal commissioner, Jalandhar, to pay the pending environmental compensation of Rs.3.6 crore to the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) at the earliest.
"PPCB had levied a total compensation of Rs.4.6 crore on MC, Jalandhar, for non-compliance of solid waste management rules of 2016, out of which Rs.90 lakh was paid and the balance is pending, despite several reminders from PPCB," the tribunal said.
The NGT has further directed that PPCB will ensure that environmental compensation recovered from the municipal corporation, Jalandhar, is utilised expeditiously for the environmental restoration measures as per the plan in the same district ...
