India, April 25 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has pulled up the Gurugram and Faridabad municipal corporations for failing to reduce legacy waste at the Bandhwari landfill.
During a hearing on April 15, the tribunal noted that unprocessed waste has risen from 8.84 lakh metric tonnes (MT) in December 2024 to 11.32 lakh MT in March 2025, despite earlier claims of progress.
The NGT found no clear data on how much waste is being treated daily. It also criticised the shift from a waste-to-energy plant to a torrefied charcoal project, which won't be functional before 2027.
