New Delhi, Feb. 13 -- The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has imposed a penalty of Rs.10,000 each on the Delhi government, the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) and the southwest Delhi district magistrate for failing to appear before it or submit reports in response to a plea filed by a woman who alleged gas build-up in the sewerage network in Uttam Nagar led to her husband's death last year.

"Such deliberate non-appearance can be remediated only by an order imposing costs for unnecessary adjournment," said NGT on February 7.
