India, Sept. 25 -- The central government on Wednesday notified new curbs on the import of plain silver jewellery (PSJ), the ministry of commerce and industry said, in a bid to curb misuse of free trade agreements (FTAs) and address large-scale imports of silver in the guise of finished jewellery. The imports circumventing the provisions of FTA were adversely affecting domestic manufacturers and employment, the ministry said. The import of PSJ falling under customs tariff heading 7113 will be permitted only after Directorate General of Foreign Trade's authorisation.htc
