New Delhi, March 5 -- There was palpable tension in a residential neighbourhood in Brahmpuri, New Usmanpur on Tuesday night, as the construction activity to extend a mosque led to communal tension between communities in the area, police said.
Police said they received a complaint signed by 21 residents of Gali No. 21, alleging stone pelting on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday by members of another community.
Police said they conducted an inquiry and checked CCTV camera footage, but it did not corroborate the allegations.
In a statement on Tuesday night, police said Al Mateen Masjid was constructed in 2013 and in 2023, its trustees purchased an adjacent plot and started to extend the mosque.
