New Delhi, Dec. 3 -- The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will undertake a comprehensive study of the water supply network in Lutyens' Delhi to prepare a 25-year water master plan, an official said on Tuesday. Bids for the project were invited on November 28, and the selected agency will get one year to develop the plan. According to an NDMC report, the 42.7 sq km area has a resident population of about 0.25 million but a much larger floating population of 1.6-2 million a day. The study will examine replacement of old pipelines, upgrading underground reservoirs, improving supply to slum clusters, and measures to enhance water security through additional storage and backup systems, a senior official said.
