Muttaqi's taj visit cancelled, u.P. cops cite 'call from Delhi'
AGRA, Oct. 13 -- The planned visit of Taliban foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi to the Taj Mahal on Sunday was cancelled at the last moment, officials confirmed, without providing a reason.
Muttaqi was scheduled to spend over an hour at the monument before returning to Delhi after having lunch at a star-category hotel near the Taj Mahal. "We came to know about the cancellation of the visit early in the day after directions came from Delhi," deputy commissioner of police, Sonam Kumar, said without sharing further details.
A senior conservation assistant of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) posted at the monument also confirmed the visit was called off but said no explanation was provided for the sudden change.
