New Delhi, Oct. 23 -- More water is being released directly into the Yamuna from the Hathnikund barrage, instead of routing it to the eastern and western canals as usual, in a bid to improve the water quality ahead of Chhath Puja, according to Central Water Commission data. Every year, devotees offer prayers in the Yamuna while standing in toxic froth. The release of more water would likely ensure less pollution - higher and stronger water flows help flush contaminants and foam out. Meanwhile, chief minister Rekha Gupta said the government will withdraw cases filed against devotees during Chhath Puja in 2021 over law-and-order issues. P4
