Amritsar, April 13 -- Sukhbir Singh Badal was re-elected the president of the Shiromani Akali Dal unanimously on Saturday, returning to the party's top post for a fourth time, months after he stepped down in compliance with the punishment set down by the Akal Takht for his "mistakes".

Badal's name was proposed by the party's working president, Balwinder Singh Bhundar, while party leaders Paramjit Singh Sarna and Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal seconded it.

Addressing the delegates after his election, Badal said, "I give you my solemn commitment that I will never compromise on any issue which concerns the prestige of the Khalsa Panth, Punjab and the SAD." P6
