India, Dec. 31 -- Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis, Sweden's pole vault sensation, was named World Athlete of the Year. Duplantis, along with retaining his gold at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September, continued his dominance of the event, breaking his own world record four times this year and remaining undefeated in 16 competitions. Duplantis cleared 6.30 metres at the Worlds after successfully retaining his title, breaking the world record for the 14th time in his career. This year he jumped 6.27 metres in Clermont-Ferrand in February before improving his record by a further centimetre in Stockholm in June, and again in Budapest in August.
