Aizawl, Feb. 7 -- While the Congress and the BJP are on different ends of the political spectrum at the national level, district units of the two parties in western Mizoram are joining forces to contest the upcoming village council elections.
The elections, scheduled for February 12, will see a pre-poll alliance of the two parties going up against the ruling Zoram Peoples' Movement in Mamit.
Congress block president Shanti Ranjan said, "We have formed a pre-poll alliance with the BJP. We want to win the village councils and our best chance for securing a positive result is by teaming up with them."
