Kolkata, Aug. 14 -- The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a man accused of raping a woman in May 2021 in West Bengal's East Midnapore district during a spate of post-poll violence following the announcement of the assembly election results, agency officials said. "The accused was arrested from a hideout at Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday. He was absconding," said a CBI official. The crime took place on May 4, 2021, two days after the election results were announced, with the Trinamool Congress returning to power amid allegations of violence. The Calcutta high court on August 19, 2021, ordered a CBI probe into allegations of violence and sexual assault committed after the elections.htc
